According to some, including a documentary on the Ford Mustang, Henry Ford said, "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses."

Now, whether or not Mr. Ford actually uttered these words, we’re not sure, but this quote is less about customers not knowing what they want and more about customers not knowing how to get what they want. Dive into the need a little deeper and you’ll see that what Henry's customers really wanted was a faster way to get from point A to point B — they just didn't know the solution was an automobile.

So whether your customers are external or internal, remember to ask questions, listen, do your homework, explore, and listen some more so that you can offer the very best solution.
